Please note that this is a sample itinerary only. Our schedule may be affected by tides and weather.
Your Kimberley cruise will begin at approximately 5:00pm with drinks and canapes on the bow. Once underway, the Chef will treat you to your first delicious dinner as we cruise up the coast towards the Buccaneer Archipelago.
On your first full day onboard, we will cruise across the vast King Sound to Yampi Sound. We can swim in turquoise waters and explore silica-white sand beaches. Perhaps you will have your first freshwater swim under an awe-inspiring waterfall at Crocodile Creek. Back onboard, you can relax and enjoy the afternoon cruise through the Koolan Island Gap, weaving past many little islands on our way to experience the world-famous Horizontal Falls.
Wake up to panoramic views of the magnificent Raft Point headland. We will spend the day exploring waterfalls, swimming and fishing in the Glenelg River, Red Cone Creek or Three Ways. You will join the crew and your fellow guests to watch the sunset and toast your day of adventure.
The unique tidal flows of Montgomery Reef are a sight to behold as we take an early morning cruise along this unique reef structure. Your crew will describe the incredible history of the area while we search for grazing Turtles, roving Sharks and the odd Dugong. You will then have the exciting opportunity to view the reef from the air, thanks to our onboard helicopter. After the turn of the tide, we will cruise up to Camden Sound and anchor for the evening.
We will start our day exploring Camden Sound and Sheep Island, the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley. You will marvel at the scenery as we cruise through Port George and Treachery Passage to Saint Georges basin. Your crew will point out major Kimberley features, such as Mount Trafalgar and Mount Waterloo as we enter the Prince Regent River. We may even have the opportunity to fish the low tide at sunset.
In the morning, we will continue our cruise along the Prince Regent River arriving at the famous King Cascade. The Skipper will position the boat under the waterfall for a beautiful photo. After anchoring the boat in the river, we will take the tender boats across to the river’s edge to commence our walk up through the rocky outcrops and along the fern-lined waterfall, arriving at the rear of the waterfall. There is the opportunity for a scenic helicopter flight to see this unique river system from the air. In the afternoon, we will make our way out of the Prince Regent River, heading towards Careening Bay, where Philip Parker King careened his boat in 1820.
The Hunter River is a scenic waterway rich with fat Barramundi and succulent Mud Crabs with plenty of opportunity to forage for lunch. For the adventurous, we can set off on a challenging hike to Jackson’s Falls. In the afternoon, you will have the option to take the helicopter up to Manning Peak for sunset drinks.
Waking up in York Sound, we will set off for a walk through a tropical rainforest arriving for a swim at Benno’s Waterfall. After lunch, we cruise to Swift Bay and Winyalken Island. Winyalken Island is covered in Livistona Palms, like a storybook pirate island. There are caves to explore as well as fascinating Wandjina and Gwion Gwion art.
This stunning wide river system has waterfalls and rock pools we can walk to. As an open estuary river, it is the perfect hunting ground for Barramundi. We will take the opportunity to drop some Mud Crab pots before lunch. After lunch, we will head off to Surveyors Creek, which is a pretty little gorge about halfway down the Mitchell River, where you can enjoy a swim in a huge waterhole.
Osborne Islands are a protected group of islands offering ample opportunity for adventure activities. We will start the day with a fishing excursion or a beach combing expedition. Later in the morning, the group will have the option to take the helicopter into a remote waterfall location for a picnic lunch and swim. In the evening, we will enjoy the sunset and a bonfire on the beach.
We will kick things off with a fishing excursion. We target a variety of pelagic species here, including Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Tuna and Mackerel. There are also a few places to pick up a Mangrove Jack, Fingermark or Bluebone as well. We will then cool off with a quick swim before trekking over to view the mysterious Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) ancient rock art galleries. Back onboard the boat, we will have lunch as we cruise into the cove to explore a crashed World War II DC3 plane.
Your backdrop for breakfast will be cathedral-like gorges as we cruise down the magnificent King George River. You will be driven right up to the cascading waterfalls and you can take a shower on the bow of the boat. We will then spend the day exploring and enjoying all the fantastic scenery this area has to offer.
The Berkeley River is a stunning river system that offers a wide variety of soft adventure options, including nature walks and swimming in fresh water pools. You will also have the opportunity to dangle your line and possibly catch a Barramundi, before enjoying a walk to a waterhole. In the afternoon, we will cruise back down the river and anchor just outside the mouth for the late afternoon.
After sharing so many experiences with the crew and fellow guests, this is a big day for everyone. We steam overnight into Wyndham and disembark the boat at 8:00am for your bus transfer back to your Kununurra accommodation.
