Please note that this is a sample itinerary only. Our schedule may be affected by tides and weather.
Today you will be transferred from Broome via light aircraft to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip. Here our helicopter will be waiting to take you on a scenic flight over the picturesque Mitchell Falls before landing on MV Great Escape to commence your cruise. This is a spectacular way to start your Kimberley adventure. Your crew will welcome you onboard and enjoy a delicious lunch before we set off to explore the Hunter River, an incredibly scenic waterway rich with fat Barramundi and succulent Mud Crabs. This afternoon you will have the option to take the helicopter up to Manning Peak for sunset drinks.
In the morning, we will cruise around to York Sound, where we will set off for a walk through a tropical rainforest arriving for a swim at Benno’s waterfall. Tide depending, we will fish for Barramundi around Boongari Island. After lunch, we will cruise to Careening Bay for an expedition to view the historic Boab Tree that Philip Parker King carved in 1820 when they careened their vessel for repairs. We will anchor for the night at Python Cliffs, under the shadow of Mount Waterloo and Trafalgar. The scenery in this area is incredible.
With luck, the tides will allow us the chance for an early morning fish. We will then cruise down through Saint Georges Basin to the mouth of the Prince Regent and onto the infamous Kings Cascades. The Skipper will position the boat under the waterfall for a beautiful photo. After anchoring the boat in the river, we will take the tender boats across to the river’s edge to walk up through the rocky outcrops and along the fern-lined waterfall, arriving at a waterhole at the rear of the waterfall. There is an opportunity for a scenic heli flight overhead to see this unique river system from the air.
Camden Harbour is steeped in history as the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley. It failed dismally, and we will delve into that history as we explore the old settlement. Tide permitting, we will gather a sumptuous feast of Kimberley Rock Oysters and then cruise past Kuri Bay on our way to Sampson Inlet.
Raising the anchor early, we will then take a cruise to Montgomery Reef, a fascinating reef structure that creates spectacular cascading waterfalls in the middle of the ocean. Your crew will describe the incredible history of the area while we search for grazing Turtles, roving Sharks and the odd Dugong. You will then have the exciting opportunity to view the reef from the air, thanks to our onboard helicopter. Finally, we will spend the late afternoon cruising into Doubtful Bay, where we will anchor for the evening.
Wake up to panoramic views of the magnificent Raft Point headland. We will spend the day exploring waterfalls, swimming and fishing in the Glenelg River, Red Cone Creek or Three Ways. You will join the crew and your fellow guests to watch the sunset and toast your day of adventure.
On your last full day onboard, you will wake in the Talbot Bay area, where we experience the world-famous Horizontal Falls via tender boat, with the option of also doing a scenic flight. We will enjoy lunch onboard as we cruise out of Talbot Bay, weaving past many little islands and through the Koolan Island Gap. Perhaps you will enjoy a freshwater swim at Dugong Bay. We can also swim in turquoise waters and explore silica-white sand beaches. In the late afternoon, we will commence our cruise past Cape Leveque celebrating our final evening together onboard as we make our way to Broome.
After sharing so many experiences with the crew and fellow guests, this is a big day for everyone. We steam overnight into Broome and disembark the boat at 8:00 am, for a bus transfer to your Broome accommodation.
Please note that this is a sample itinerary only. Our schedule may be affected by tides and weather.
Your crew will welcome you aboard at approximately 5:00pm with drinks and canapés on the bow. Once underway, the Chef will treat you to your first delicious dinner as we cruise up the coast towards the Buccaneer Archipelago.
On your first full day onboard, we will cruise across the vast King Sound to Yampi Sound. We can swim in turquoise waters and explore silica-white sand beaches. Perhaps you will have your first freshwater swim under an awe-inspiring waterfall at Crocodile Creek. Back onboard, you can relax and enjoy the afternoon cruise through the Koolan Island Gap, weaving past many little islands on our way to experience the world- famous Horizontal Falls.
The unique tidal flows of Montgomery Reef are a sight to behold as we take an early morning cruise along this unique reef structure. Your crew will describe the incredible history of the area while we search for grazing Turtles, roving Sharks and the odd Dugong. You will then have the exciting opportunity to view the reef from the air, thanks to our onboard helicopter. After the turn of the tide, we will cruise up to Camden Sound and anchor for the evening.
We will start our day exploring Camden Sound and Sheep Island, the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley. You will marvel at the scenery as we cruise through Port Georges and Treachery Passage to Saint Georges basin. Your crew will point out major Kimberley features, such as Mount Trafalgar and Mount Waterloo as we enter the Prince Regent River. We may even have the opportunity to fish the low tide at sunset.
In the morning, we will continue our cruise along the Prince Regent River arriving at the infamous Kings Cascades. The Skipper will position the boat under the waterfall for a beautiful photo. After anchoring the boat in the river, we will take the tender boats across to the river’s edge to commence our walk up through the rocky outcrops and along the fern-lined waterfall, arriving at a waterhole at the rear of the waterfall. In the afternoon, we will make our way out of the Prince Regent River, heading towards Careening Bay, where Philip Parker King careened his boat in 1820.
The Hunter River is an incredibly scenic waterway rich with fat Barramundi and succulent Mud Crabs with plenty of opportunity to forage for lunch. For the adventurous, we can set off on a challenging hike to Jackson’s Falls. In the afternoon, you will have the option to join the helicopter sunset drinks excursion atop Manning Peak.
It might be the final day of your cruise, but not the end of the spectacular scenery. Today you will be transferred from the boat via helicopter over the picturesque Mitchell Falls to the Mitchell Plateau airstrip. Here you will be greeted by a fixed-wing aircraft that will fly you back to Broome Airport.
